Karnataka: Debt-ridden family of three commits suicide by jumping into canal; Horrifying visuals surface

New Delhi: In a heartbreaking incident, three members of a family ended their lives by jumping into a canal in Karnataka's Hassan district. The incident occurred in the Kerebidi area of Channarayapatna taluk, leaving the local community in shock. The deceased have been identified as Srinivas (43), his wife Shweta (36), and their 13-year-old daughter, Nagashree. The couple's bodies were recovered from the Hemavati canal, while efforts are still underway to locate the body of their daughter. 

Financial struggles lead to tragedy

According to reports, the family was struggling under the burden of debt, which is believed to have driven them to take this drastic step. Srinivas, who worked as a car driver, had accumulated loans from various sources but was unable to repay them. Shweta was employed as a teacher at a private school, but their combined income was not enough to alleviate their financial woes.

Family reported missing 

The family had been missing since last Tuesday, prompting concerned relatives to file a missing persons report at the Channarayapatna Nagar Police Station. The bodies of Srinivas and Shweta were eventually discovered in a canal near Bagur Hobali, Mudlapur, on Wednesday evening. Fire brigade personnel and police officers have continued their search for Nagashree's body.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Hassan Mohammad Sujeeta visited the scene to oversee the investigation. A case has been registered at Nuggehalli Police Station, and further inquiries are ongoing to uncover more details surrounding this tragic incident.
