High Drama in Karnataka Assembly: Tempers flared and papers flew in the Karnataka Assembly as BJP MLAs unleashed their fury over the newly passed Muslim quota bill.The noise and ruckus of the MLAs increased so much that the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned. In fact, amidst the ruckus, the bill providing 4 percent reservation to minorities in government contracts has been passed. BJP MLAs are opposing this bill. Along with this, the bill related to the salary of ministers and MLAs has also been passed.


A copy of the bill was torn and thrown at the speaker
BJP is opposing this bill by calling it 'unconstitutional'. The party says that it will challenge this bill legally. BJP MLAs came towards the Speaker's chair shouting slogans against the passing of the bill. BJP MLAs tore copies of the 4 percent quota bill and threw it towards the Speaker. At the same time, Congress says that this bill will provide social justice and economic opportunities to the minority community.

BJP will challenge the bill in court
BJP says that Congress is appeasing Muslims. According to this quota, Muslims will get four percent reservation in government contracts. This will increase their share in government contracts. BJP says that if quota has to be given then it should be given on economic basis and not on religious basis. BJP has said that this bill is discriminatory and unconstitutional. It will challenge it in the court.


Resolution passed against Wakf Amendment Bill
Earlier on Wednesday, the Karnataka Assembly passed a resolution against the Centre's Waqf Amendment Bill amid a walkout by opposition BJP. The resolution was moved by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil. Reading out the resolution in the Assembly, Patil said, 'This House unanimously urges the Central Government to respect the unanimous opinion of the country by immediately withdrawing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which has provisions that violate the basic principles of the Constitution.'
