Kapil Sibal elected as President of Supreme Court Bar Association after defeating Pradeep Rai

The Supreme Court Bar Association's (SCBA) election for president has been won by senior advocate Kapil Sibal. With 1,066 votes, Kapil Sibal defeated Pradeep Rai, the senior advocate and his closest opponent. Bar and Bench reported that Pradeep Kumar Rai garnered 689 votes. Kapil was previously elected as the SCBA President three times, the last instance being twenty-three years ago in 2001. Before that, he was president during the 1995–96 and 1997–98 terms. SCBA Honorary Secretary Rohit Pandey said the veteran lawyer is contesting for the post of president. Senior advocate Adish Aggarwala is currently the president of the SCBA.

Kapil's prowess 

Sibal, a 1989 Harvard Law School graduate, served as India's additional solicitor general in 1989–1990. In 1983, he was named a senior advocate. Three times before, in the most recent election occurring twenty-three years ago in 2001, Kapil Sibal was elected President of the SCBA. He served as president from 1995 to 1996 and from 1997 to 1998 before that.

SCBA and law

According to SCBA Honorary Secretary Rohit Pandey, the seasoned attorney is running for president. Adish Aggarwala, a senior advocate, is the SCBA's current president. The bench had declared that the position of executive committee treasurer should be reserved for women in the upcoming 2024–2025 SCBA polls. Votes will be tallied on May 18, following the SCBA elections on May 16. On May 19, the results will be announced.
