New Delhi: In a tragic turn of events,a 25-year-old kanwariya named Sachin Khandelwal, who tragically lost his life in a car accident near Roorkee while on his way to Haridwar to fetch Ganga water, has transformed the lives of five individuals through organ donation. Sachin, a resident of Mahendragarh in Haryana, met with the accident on July 22 and was rushed to AIIMS Rishikesh, where he was declared to be in a coma and unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries soon after.

Sachin's family donates organs

Following the tragic event, Sachin's family made the noble decision to donate his organs, which were then transported to various medical institutions with the help of the Dehradun police, who facilitated a green corridor from AIIMS Rishikesh to Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport.

As a result, Sachin's kidneys, pancreas and liver were successfully transplanted at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh and the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in Delhi, while two patients in Uttarakhand regained their sight thanks to his corneas.

Deceased brother recalls joyful moments

Sachin's family has taken solace in the fact that his death has given new life to others, with his younger brother Pankaj Khandelwal reminiscing about their first kanwar yatra together. This remarkable act of organ donation has also marked a milestone in advanced medical technology at AIIMS Rishikesh, demonstrating the hospital's capability to save lives with administrative support.
