New Delhi: Kanpur police responded immediately to the controversial slogans of 'Sir Tan Se Juda' raised during a Muharram procession. A case has been registered against 40 unidentified individuals and one named person. This incident came to light after a video capturing the slogans went viral on social media. The video was considered provocative and was said to be creating a tense atmosphere in the community. 

How did it happen?

The viral video originated from the Rawatpur area of Kanpur, where the controversial slogans were raised during the Muharram procession, even in the presence of police officers. In the video, the crowd can be heard chanting, "Gustak-e-Rasool ki ek saza, Sir tan se juda-Sir tan se juda." A user on microblogging site X posted it, and it rapidly spread across various platforms.

Official response

Currently, Additional CP Harish Chander has assigned the investigation to the DCP South. A formal report regarding the sloganeering has been filed at the Rawatpur police station. The police have registered a case against 40 unidentified people along with one named person.

Viral video sparks legal action

On Wednesday, a brief video clip showing numerous participants in the Muharram procession chanting the controversial slogans went viral. The slogans, 'Sir Tan Se Juda,' were distinctly heard in the video. Vijay Dhul, DCP of Kalyanpur Circle, Kanpur, stated an FIR has been filed against the main organizer of the procession and several unidentified individuals. The police have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken following the investigation.
