New Delhi: Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, currently imprisoned in Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in connection with a murder case, has become the center of controversy after a photo showing him receiving VIP treatment inside the jail went viral on social media. The image, which has drawn significant public attention, depicts Darshan relaxing with a cigarette and a beverage, surrounded by notorious inmates, including Wilson Garden Naga, a known history-sheeter.

Prison department responds

The viral photo has prompted a swift response from the prison department, which has summoned top officials to address the situation. The department is investigating how the photo was taken and why Darshan was allegedly afforded such preferential treatment. This has raised questions about the conditions and security measures within the prison.

Murder case background

Darshan Thoogudeepa's incarceration stems from his alleged involvement in the murder of Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old auto driver and fan of the actor. Renukaswamy was found dead near a Bengaluru flyover on June 9. Police allege that he was kidnapped and killed by a gang acting on Darshan's orders, following Renukaswamy's offensive messages directed at actor Pavithra Gowda, rumored to be Darshan's partner.

Renukaswamy's father, Shiva Gowda, has expressed shock and demanded action from the state government, calling for an investigation into the actor's treatment in prison. "When Darshan asked for home-cooked food, it wasn't permitted. I am utterly surprised by this situation and request the government investigate and take action," Gowda said.
