In response to the reported altercation between Bharatiya Janata Party MP-elect Kangana Ranaut and a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable at Chandigarh airport on June 6, a specialized investigative team comprising three members has been established. This development coincided with a demonstration in Mohali by various farmer groups, including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, in solidarity with Kulwinder Kaur, the CISF constable involved in the incident.

Proper inquiry into the matter

Amidst these events, farmer representatives, including those from the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, presented a formal petition to Mohali's senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sandeep Garg, advocating for a thorough inquiry into the matter, as reported by PTI.

SIT formed

Mohali SP Harbir Singh Atwal confirmed the formation of the three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), emphasizing its commitment to conducting an unbiased investigation. He also mentioned the inclusion of a female police officer in the SIT to ensure diverse perspectives. In response, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher stressed the importance of uncovering the circumstances leading to the incident, underscoring the need for fairness, particularly in addressing the role of the female constable.

Alleged of making inflammatory remarks

Meanwhile, accusations have been leveled against Kangana Ranaut by farmer leaders, alleging her of making inflammatory remarks against the people of Punjab. The incident in question occurred when Ranaut, who recently secured victory in her first Lok Sabha election from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, was reportedly slapped by Kaur at Chandigarh airport.

The confrontation stemmed from a viral video in which Kaur chastised Ranaut for her remarks regarding farmer protestors during the 2020 demonstrations. Kaur, charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code by Mohali Police, expressed her indignation at Ranaut's characterization of the protestors, citing her own family's involvement in the protests.
