Bollywood actress and BJP's Lok Sabha election candidate from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi constituency, Kangana Ranaut, made her first public statement to the media on Tuesday regarding a now-deleted social media post by Congress leader Supriya Shrinate.
Addressing journalists, the four-time National Award-winning actor emphasised the importance of dignity for every woman. "Every woman deserves dignity," stated Kangana during the interaction.
While Shrinate acknowledged the objectionable nature of the post in question in a clarification shared on her social media account on Monday, BJP leaders took a critical stance against the Congress leader. Some BJP members went as far as demanding her expulsion from the party, echoing sentiments expressed by Mallikarjun Kharge.
In a video posted by Shrinate, she explained, "Many individuals have access to my Facebook and Instagram accounts, and it appears that one of them posted an extremely inappropriate message today. Once I became aware of it, I promptly removed the post."
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken note of the matter and has communicated with the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the derogatory remark aimed at Kangana Ranaut, who is stepping into the political arena in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
