New Delhi: Speculations surrounding the potential departure of senior Congress leader Kamal Nath to join forces with the BJP were quashed on Sunday, with the Grand Old Party asserting that there is no such contemplation by the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and labeling it as a "conspiracy" against him.
Kamal Nath's arrival in the national capital on Saturday fueled rumors of a possible switch to the BJP, especially after his son Nakul removed references to Congress from his social media bios, now identifying only as the MLA from Chhindwara.
Several Congress leaders, however, have refuted the rumors, affirming that Kamal Nath remains in constant communication with the party leadership and has no intention of leaving the party.
Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari, speaking to ANI, dismissed the speculations as a conspiracy against Kamal Nath, emphasizing Nath's commitment to the Congress ideology. Patwari stated that Nath assured him of his loyalty to the party until his last breath.
Kamal Nath, a nine-time MP from Chhindwara, resigned as the Congress' Madhya Pradesh unit chief following the party's defeat in the November Assembly elections against the BJP.
Despite the Congress's desire for Kamal Nath to remain, tensions arose when his son Nakul removed Congress affiliations from his social media profiles. The party engaged in damage control, with senior leader Digvijay Singh facilitating discussions between Kamal Nath and Rahul Gandhi to address his grievances.
Reports suggested that Kamal Nath sought a Rajya Sabha nomination, mirroring Sonia Gandhi's trajectory, yet his dissatisfaction with the party's handling of the matter became apparent.
The Congress, keen on retaining Kamal Nath's allegiance, faces internal challenges, particularly regarding his son Nakul's actions. Kamal Nath's desired transition to the Rajya Sabha and Nakul's potential succession in the Chhindwara constituency underscore intricate party dynamics.
As political speculations continue to swirl, Kamal Nath's steadfast commitment to the Congress and the unfolding dynamics within the party reflect the intricate nature of Indian politics and the delicate balance of power and loyalty.
