The Haryana government has increased the reservation quota for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category in educational institutions and government jobs from 15% to 27%. The significant change came from Chief Minister Nayab Singh on Sunday, while addressing ‘OBC Morcha Savr Sammelan’ in Gurugram.
It is worth noting that this significant policy change aims to enhance the representation and opportunities for individuals belonging to the OBC community in the state. Apart from this, the CM also said that reservation for the backward classes in Group A and Group B posts, is in line with the Central government’s policy.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the significant move has come just a few months ahead of the Haryana Assembly polls that are likely to take place in October. Apart from this, the CM also announced an increase in annual income for the creamy layer from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh, which is almost similar to the Centre.

He further added that the backlog of open positions for the Backward Class in groups A and B will be filled as soon as possible, adding that plans are in place for a special recruitment campaign.
The Chief Minister declared that the recruitment process conducted through Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam will incorporate the 27% reservation to facilitate the employment prospects available to OBC youth.
Meanwhile, it is anticipated that an increase in reservation quota is expected to provide more educational and employment opportunities for the OBC community that may promote greater social equity. Apart from this, the changes are to likely impact admissions in educational institutions, allowing a larger number of OBC students to gain access to higher education.
In government jobs, the increased reservation is aimed at improving the representation of OBCs in various government sectors, ensuring that the community has better access to public sector employment opportunities.
