A professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) faces allegations of sexual harassment from a student, leading to her departure from the campus. The student, a 20-year-old enrolled in JNUs Center for Chinese and South East Asian Studies, claims the professor bombarded her with obscene messages in Chinese and repeatedly summoned her to his chamber alone. The Delhi Police initiated action against the professor a week prior to the incident.Sent message in Chinese language A senior officer explained, Following the victims complaint at Vasant Kunj (North) police station, the police commenced investigations, culminating in the registration of a case. Substantiating evidence, including Chinese language WhatsApp messages from the professor to the student and her statement recorded before a magistrate under section 164 CrPC, formed the basis of our inquiry. Testimonies from other students in the professors class were also gathered. With ample evidence at hand, we have detained the professor, and a charge sheet will follow.Case registered According to the womans complaint lodged on April 30, the professor persistently harassed her through messages and calls, resorting to composing lewd poems and pressuring her for private meetings. Allegedly, upon her refusal, he threatened to fail her in her academic assessments. In response to inquiries about the complaint, Proctor Sudhir Kumar Arya clarified that his office does not handle sexual harassment cases.
