New Delhi: In a shocking incident from Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district, a mother of four was caught in an extramarital affair with a young man. The villagers, who caught the pair in a compromising position, dragged them out, forced them to wear a garland made of shoes, and paraded them through the streets. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
The incident took place in a village under the Bachha Panchayat, located in the Mirzachowki police station area. According to reports, a 40-year-old married woman was involved in a relationship with a younger man from the same village. Her husband was away working in another state, leaving her alone with their four children. The affair was carried out in secret until the day the young man visited her home, unaware that the villagers were onto them.
The couple was discovered in the woman’s bedroom in an intimate situation. Enraged by the affair, the villagers forcibly dragged them out into the open, where they faced both verbal and physical abuse. To further humiliate the pair, the villagers forced them to wear garlands of shoes and paraded them through the village streets.
As the couple was marched around the village, drums were played in the background, amplifying their public humiliation. Several bystanders recorded the event on their phones, with the footage quickly circulating online. The viral video attracted the attention of local authorities, prompting the Sahibganj police to take action.
The police have now launched an investigation into the incident. An FIR has been lodged against 15 to 20 villagers involved in the public shaming. The police are working on identifying those responsible and ensuring that they are held accountable.
Sahibganj District Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Kumar Singh confirmed that the case is under investigation. "A case of humiliating a young man and a married woman has surfaced in the Mirza Chowki police station area. The viral video has come to our attention, and a special team led by SDPO Sahibganj has been formed to investigate the matter. Action will be taken against those involved," said SP Singh.
