Jharkhand train tragedy: 3 killed, 2 injured in Sahibganj goods train collision

Jharkhand: There was a serious train accident in Sahibganj, Jharkhand on Tuesday. Three individuals, including two loco pilots, lost their lives in this accident. The accident occurred on the Farakka-Lalmatia MGR railway line near Barhait police station area of Sahibganj district. In preliminary reports, the goods train was at Barhait MT when the through-pass goods train loaded with coal from Lalmatia collided forcefully.

Jharkhand: A severe train accident occurred in Sahibganj, Jharkhand on Tuesday. Three individuals, two of whom were loco pilots, lost their lives in the accident. As per reports, a goods train carrying coal rammed into an empty goods train in Sahibganj district. At least five railway staff and a CRPF trooper were also injured in the accident. All the injured were admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Barhait for treatment. Following the accident, the administration also dispatched a team to the scene to assess the situation and initiate investigation.

Where did the accident occur?

The mishap occurred on Farakka-Lalmatia MGR rail route near the area of Sahibganj district's Barhait police station. As per initial reports, the goods train, which was empty, was parked at Barhait MT when the through-pass goods train with coal from Lalmatia struck with a force. The crash occurred at around 3:30 am.

What did the police report?

Both the goods trains and the track where the mishap occurred are owned by the NTPC which primarily is used for transporting coal to its power plants, police said. Sahebganj Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kishore Tirkey said the drivers of the two goods trains were killed in a head-on collision. Eastern Railway official Kaushik Mitra stated that both the goods train and the track were owned by the NTPC. It has no connection with Indian Railways. The crash occurred on the route between NTPC's Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Station in Bhagalpur district of Bihar and Farakka Power Plant in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.

Previously, 11 Kamakhya Express coaches derailed at Cuttack's Nergundi. One man died and several were injured when the accident happened.
