Amid a surge in terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has apprehended two individuals allegedly involved in financing subversive activities for the pro-Pakistan terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen. These arrests, made under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), are linked to a case of narco-terrorism.

Details of the arrests

The ED announced the arrests of Arshad Ahmed Allie and Fayaz Ahmed Dar on the social media platform X. "Jammu-based ED has arrested two accused persons, namely Arshad Ahmed Allie and Fayaz Ahmed Dar under the provisions of PMLA in connection with a case involving narco-terrorism, linked to funding of the subversive activities of terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen," the statement read. The suspects were presented before the Special Court (PMLA) in Jammu, which granted the ED five days of custody for further investigation.

Increasing terror attacks in J&K

The Jammu region, which experienced relative peace between 2005 and 2021 due to extensive counter-terrorism operations, has recently seen a rise in terror activities. Notably, a recent attack on a pilgrim bus resulted in nine deaths and 40 injuries. Since October 2021, terror incidents have resurfaced, particularly in the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, and have spread to areas like Reasi, Kathua, and Doda.

Security officials attribute these attacks to efforts by Pakistani handlers to reignite terrorism in the region. Since 2021, over 70 individuals, including 52 security personnel—primarily from the Army—have been killed in terror-related incidents in Jammu.
