The National Investigative Agency (NIA) on Tuesday carried out raids at five locations in South Kashmir as part of the ongoing crackdown against Pakistan-based terror outfits.

The searches were conducted at the Turkawangam and Kapran villages in Shopian town, and Pulwama districts. The rains targetted the residential areas of sympathisers, cadres, hybrid terrorists, and over ground workers (OGWs) linked the nascent offshoots and affiliates of Pakistan-based terrorist outfits such as the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), and Al-Badr.

The raids were conducted in connection to a case registered by NIA in 2022, in which banned terrorist outfits were drawing up plans to unleash terrorist attacks in the valley using sticky bombs, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and small arms.

The NIA was assisted by the CRPF and Jammu & Kashmir Police in conducting the raids.

“The raids were part of the ongoing investigations of the NIA in the terror conspiracy case, involving the activities of OGWs and cadres in support of various newly-launched outfits, such as The Resistance Front (TRF), Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Jammu & Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), Kashmir Tigers, PAAF, United Liberation Front Jammu and Kashmir (ULFJ&K), among others,” an anonymous NIA official was quoted by Republic World.

Kashmir raids come after Delhi court convicts Indian Mujahideen terrorists

The raids came after a Delhi court on Monday convicted four operatives belonging to the banned terrorist group Indian Mujahideen for conspiring to commit terrorist activities in India.

Special Judge Shailender Malik convicted the four IM operatives – Danish Ansari, Aftab Alam, Imran Khan, and Obaid-Ur-Rehman – in a September 2012 case registered by the NIA. The four were convicted under Sections 121A (conspiracy to wage war against Government of India) and 123 (Concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war) of the IPC.
