New Delhi: A horrific case of sexual assault has been reported from Odisha’s Jajpur district, where a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 30-year-old man. The incident occurred late on Monday night when the accused, identified as Uttam Singh from Nuagaon village, allegedly broke into the victim’s room and assaulted her.

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the girl was sleeping alone when the accused forcibly entered through a broken window and committed the crime. The girl’s cries for help woke up her family, who rushed to the scene. Following the incident, the family lodged a complaint at the Tomka police station, leading to the arrest of the accused.

The police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The investigation is currently ongoing. Tomka Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Pramodini Sahu, confirmed that both the victim and the accused were subjected to medical examinations at a government hospital in Sukinda. The accused was later produced before a local court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.

Balasore Court Sentences Man to 10 Years for Rape of Minor

In a separate case, a court in Odisha’s Balasore district has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl six years ago. The convict, Bharat Sethi, was also fined ₹5,000, with an additional two-year sentence if he fails to pay. The court also ordered a compensation of ₹4 lakh to be provided to the victim.

Special Public Prosecutor Pranab Kumar Panda stated that the court found Sethi guilty under the POCSO Act after examining 12 witnesses and 19 pieces of evidence. The judgment was delivered by Judge Ranjan Kumar Sutar of the POCSO Court in Balasore.
