Resolution of long-running case

On Wednesday, police successfully resolved the kidnapping case of Prithvi, an 11-month-old baby who was abducted 14 months ago from the Sanganer Sadar police station area in Jaipur. The accused, Tanuj Chahar, a head constable with a reward of Rs 25,000 for his capture, was apprehended. The child was recovered from Chahar's custody, bringing relief and closure to a prolonged investigation.

How accused evaded the law?

Reports reveal that Tanuj Chahar, originally from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, had been evading capture by living as a monk in Vrindavan. He constructed a hut near the Yamuna River on the Parikrama path and adopted a disguise with a long beard and hair to conceal his identity. Previously posted as a head constable in Aligarh, Chahar was suspended and had a background in police operations. His knowledge of police procedures allowed him to avoid detection by frequently changing his location and avoiding phone communication.

Police apprehend accused after intense pursuit

On August 22, a special police team was dispatched to Mathura, Agra, and Aligarh to arrest Chahar. Armed with information about his disguise and location, the officers also disguised themselves as monks to blend in with the local environment. On August 27, they learned that Chahar had moved to Aligarh. When the police arrived to apprehend him, Chahar attempted to flee with the abducted child. After an intense chase of 8 kilometers, the police successfully captured him.

Details of investigation

Investigators, including Additional DCP Poonam Chand Vishnoi and Additional DCP Paras Jain, revealed that Chahar's motive was to keep Poonam Chaudhary, the complainant, and the abducted child Prithvi (also known as Kukku) with him. When Poonam refused his demands, Chahar, with the help of accomplices, kidnapped her child to coerce her into compliance.
