New Delhi: Mukhtar Ansari, notorious gangster and erstwhile politician, faced a severe health setback as he suffered a sudden heart attack while incarcerated in Banda jail, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred on Thursday night, prompting immediate action to transfer Ansari to a nearby medical college for urgent medical attention.Ansaris health remains in critical conditionDespite the vigilant monitoring of a team of three doctors within the confines of the jail, Ansaris health continued to deteriorate, necessitating his transfer to the medical college. Upon examination at the medical facility, Ansaris condition was deemed critical, warranting admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he was placed on a ventilator for intensive treatment.The news of Ansaris deteriorating health prompted his family members, including his brother Afzal Ansari and son Omar Ansari, to rush to Banda in a show of concern. However, due to medical restrictions, they were unable to meet with Ansari in person.Spent 16 hours in ICUThroughout Ansaris ordeal, the medical college administration issued periodic updates on his condition, confirming that he remained in critical condition while under intensive care. After spending 16 hours in the ICU, Ansari exhibited signs of improvement, leading to his discharge from the medical facility. Upon his return to the jail premises, a team of doctors was tasked with overseeing his ongoing medical needs.Investigating allegationsConcerns surrounding Ansaris well-being escalated following allegations by his legal counsel, who claimed that Ansari was being subjected to deliberate poisoning through his food while in Banda jail. In response to these allegations, attempts were made to arrange a video conference hearing with Ansari, but logistical failures on the part of the jail administration led to the suspension of the responsible officials pending further investigation.
