Another depressing incident took place in West Bengal’s Jadavpur University, where a student allegedly tried to die by suicide to save himself from ‘police harassment’ amid the investigation into the death of a first-year undergraduate student, said sources. The police have been investigating the case after his parents lodged a case saying the deceased was a ‘victim of ragging.’
On August 09, the student died after he allegedly fell from the 2nd-floor balcony of his hostel. Almost 12 people, including current students and alumni, have been arrested in link to his death.
As police started nabbing people linked to this case, a student, who lives in the hostel, has been traumatised by the police investigation. According to the sources, the police have also seized him for forensic examination to get any electronic evidence related to the alleged ragging of the deceased student. He then started panicking and tried to die by suicide, said they said.
Amid his shocking suicide attempt, the officials of the university arranged counselling sessions with a psychological counsellor. They also spoke to the student’s family regarding the matter.
Later, this matter was reported to the Jadavpur Police Station.
