J-K News: In a high-stakes encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor region, security forces neutralized a second terrorist on Tuesday morning, bringing the total to two militants killed since the operation began. The standoff erupted on Monday after three terrorists targeted an army ambulance, part of a convoy near the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in a swift response from Indian special forces and NSG commandos.

Terrorists hide near Assan temple, forces mount final attack

Following the initial attack, the three terrorists fled into the forests near Jogwan village, taking cover close to the Assan Temple. After one militant was killed on Monday evening, the operation resumed Tuesday morning with forces deploying BMP-II infantry combat vehicles to tighten the cordon and helicopters to monitor the rugged terrain. Explosions and gunfire marked the morning as forces closed in on the militants.

In the line of duty, Phantom, a four-year-old Army dog known for his valor, was fatally wounded. His role in locating the terrorists was crucial in securing the area.

Terrorist infiltration continues amid rising violence

The three terrorists are believed to have crossed into India the night before, targeting an army convoy at around 6:30 a.m. on Monday. As the troops retaliated, the militants took shelter in a basement nearby, but persistent efforts by the security forces led to their eventual neutralization. The body of one of the terrorists was recovered, underscoring the ongoing efforts to dismantle terror activities in the region.

Recent attacks in Kashmir valley under scrutiny

The Akhnoor encounter follows a series of attacks across Jammu and Kashmir, including a deadly ambush in Baramulla last week that claimed the lives of two soldiers and two civilians. In another tragic incident, a local doctor and six non-local laborers were killed by terrorists at a tunnel construction site in Ganderbal. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha pledged to avenge all innocent blood spilled in the valley, reinforcing the government’s commitment to counter-terrorism measures in the region.
