J-K police unveils sketch of Reasi bus attack terrorist, offers Rs 20 lakh reward for information

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted an assessment of the situation in Reasi, while the NIA's forensic team began collecting evidence. In response to the tragedy, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced on June 10 an ex gratia amounting to ₹10 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased individual and ₹50,000 for each injured victim of the Reasi terror attack.

Two days after a tragic event that claimed the lives of nine individuals and left 41 others wounded in a terror strike targeting a passenger bus in Reasi district, the Jammu and Kashmir Police took action. They unveiled a sketch of one of the terrorists involved in the assault, offering a reward of ₹20 lakh for any valuable information leading to his whereabouts.

Attack on bus full of pilgrims 

The incident unfolded on Sunday as terrorists launched an attack on a 53-seater bus ferrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori temple to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra. The ambush took place near Teryath village in the Poni area, causing the bus, carrying pilgrims mainly from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi, to plunge into a deep gorge in Reasi district amid the gunfire.

Reward of Rs 20 lakh

A police spokesperson, as quoted by news agency PTI, stated, “Reasi police announce a reward of ₹20 lakh for any fruitful information about the whereabouts of the terrorist involved in the recent attack on the yatri bus in the area of Pouni.” The sketch of the terrorist was crafted based on eyewitness accounts, with an appeal made to the public to come forward with any pertinent information.

Various phone numbers were provided for reporting information on the terrorists, including those of SSP Reasi, ASP Reasi, DySP HQ Reasi, SHO Pouni, SHO Ransoo, and PCR Reasi. Efforts are underway 

Intensive efforts are underway to locate the perpetrators of the Reasi attack, with 11 teams of security personnel deployed on the ground and a comprehensive cordon established around the Ranso-Poni-Treyath belt. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have identified the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba as the likely masterminds behind the assault.
