Jammu and Kashmir News: National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah is set to be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on October 16, 2024. This comes after the Centre revoked President's rule in the Union Territory, allowing the region to form a government for the first time since the abrogation of Article 370.

Abdullah shared a letter on X (formerly Twitter), sent by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, inviting him to take the oath at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar. In the letter, Sinha expressed his best wishes, saying, "I take this opportunity to wish you a highly productive tenure and success in your endeavors in the best interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir."

Abdullah takes charge over J&K

This invitation follows Abdullah’s unanimous election as leader of the NC legislature party. The NC-Congress alliance, which won 48 out of 90 seats in the recent Jammu and Kashmir elections, is set to form the new government. The NC secured 42 seats, while Congress won six. Abdullah has also received support from various party leaders, including J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra and CPI(M) Secretary G N Malik, along with several independent MLAs.This will be Abdullah’s second term as Chief Minister, marking a key political development in Jammu and Kashmir's journey post-Article 370.
