New Delhi: In an operation against militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, three terrorists were killed during an encounter with security forces in Baramulla district early this morning. The gunfight took place in the Chak Taper Kreeri area of Pattan after a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police. Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of militants, the operation was initiated late Friday night.

Drones aid in locating terrorists

A video has surfaced on social media platform X, showing the Indian Army using drones to locate the hiding terrorists. The footage reveals Army personnel assessing the situation while civilians are seen resting in nearby rooms. The technology played a pivotal role in tracking down the militants, leading to the eventual encounter.

Parallel encounter in Kathua

In a separate operation, the Army's Rising Star Corps eliminated two more terrorists in the Kathua district on Friday. After the successful mission, the Army recovered large amounts of "war-like stores," including weapons and ammunition, further neutralizing threats in the region. A statement on X confirmed the conclusion of this operation.

Army losses in Kishtwar

Unfortunately, Friday also saw the tragic loss of two Indian Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), during an encounter in the Kishtwar district. The gunfight erupted when a joint team of Army and police forces, acting on intelligence, launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Naidgham area, which connects Kishtwar to Anantnag in South Kashmir.

Four soldiers were injured in the firefight, and sadly, two of them—Naib Subedar Vipan Kumar and Sepoy Arvind Singh—succumbed to their injuries. One soldier was killed by splinter injuries from a grenade explosion, while the other died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Increased security ahead of PM Modi's visit

These incidents occurred just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s high-profile election rally in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. In preparation, multi-tier security arrangements have been put in place across the Doda and Kishtwar districts, particularly around the rally venue. This event will mark the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Doda in 42 years.
