J-K assembly elections: BJP unveils third list of 29 candidates; Check full details

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced its third list of 29 candidates for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. This list comprises candidates for both the second and third phases of the election, with 10 candidates slated for the second phase and 19 for the third. The elections will be conducted in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the vote counting scheduled for October 4.

Key candidates announced

Among the prominent candidates, Ashok Bhat has been chosen to contest from Habbakadal, while Mohammad Akram Choudhary will represent Gulabgarh. Kuldeep Raj Dubey is set to contest from Reasi, and Baldev Raj Sharma from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. Thakur Randhir Singh has been nominated for the Kalakote-Sunderbani seat.

Other notable names include Choudhary Zulfikar Ali, who will contest from Budhal, and Mohammad Iqbal Malik from Thannamandi. Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari is fielded from Surankote, and Choudhary Abdul Ghani from Poonch Haveli. Murtaza Khan has been nominated for Mendhar, Pawan Gupta for Udhampur West, and Balwant Singh Mankotia for Chenani.

Additional nominations, strategic moves

In addition to these, Sunil Bhardwaj will contest from Ramnagar, while Jeevan Lal is nominated for Bani. Satish Sharma will stand for Billawar, with Darshan Singh contesting from Basholi. Rajiv Jasrotia has been chosen for Jasrota, Vijay Kumar Sharma for Hiranagar, and Devinder Kumar Maniyal for Ramgarh. Surjit Singh Salathia, Chandra Prakash Ganga, and Gharu Ram Bhagat have been nominated for Samba, Vijaypur, and Suchetgarh, respectively. The list also includes Narinder Singh Raina for RS Pura-Jammu South, Yudhvir Sethi for Jammu East, Devinder Singh Rana for Nagrota, Arvind Gupta for Jammu West, Sham Lal Sharma for Jammu North, Mohan Lal Bhagat for Akhnoor, and Rajeev Sharma for Chhamb.

Veteran leaders dropped amid dissent

The BJP’s decision to drop senior leaders, including former Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and former ministers Sat Paul Sharma, Priya Sethi, and Sham Lal Choudhary, has stirred discontent within the party ranks. On Monday, several BJP workers threatened to rebel in the upcoming polls, expressing frustration over the exclusion of their preferred leaders. The workers warned that this could weaken the party’s position in the elections.
