New Delhi: In a major counter-terrorism operation, three terrorists were shot dead by security forces today in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kathua district. The joint operation involved the Indian Army’s elite 1 Para unit, 22 Garhwal Rifles, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG). Reports indicate that the operation is still underway as security forces continue to monitor the area for any remaining threats.
The encounter occurred as part of a larger anti-terrorism initiative in the region. With the involvement of 1 Para and 22 Garhwal Rifles, the army's special forces played a key role in neutralizing the militants. The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police worked closely with the military units to ensure the success of the operation. Security agencies are continuing to sweep the area to ensure it is fully secure.
This counter-terrorism operation comes at a crucial time, as elections in Jammu & Kashmir are set to take place in three phases starting from September 18. Security forces across the region have been placed on high alert to prevent any disruptions during the election period, especially in areas known for heightened militant activity.
Earlier in the day, a Border Security Force (BSF) soldier was injured following unprovoked firing by Pakistani forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor sector. The situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and the India-Pakistan international border remains tense, with frequent ceasefire violations. The BSF, responsible for securing the 3,323 km long border, remains vigilant to counter any cross-border threats.
