While addressing the press conference in Delhi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar hit out at Canada over an event celebrating the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Jaishankar also spoke about the relations with Afghan and lashed out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks at the US visit.

Expressed concern for the celebration of the assassination of Indira Gandhi: Jaishankar

While expressing his concern over the reports of a parade float in Canada’s Brampton city over the celebration of the assassination of the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Jaishankar slammed Canada and said that there has to be an underlying issue about the space which is given to the separatists and it is not good for the relations.

“I am appalled by reports of an event in Canada that celebrated the assassination of late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. There is no place in Canada for hate or the glorification of violence. I categorically condemn these activities,” he said.

Jaishankar also assured that they will strongly take up the issue with the Canadian authorities.

India’s focus is helping Afghan people: Jaishankar

Addressing the press conference, Jaishankar said that the focus currently is Afghanistan and it is more on helping the Afghan people and noted that there has been a “historic connect” with them. He also added that the technical team has been sent to the Embassy of Afghanistan and their job is essentially to monitor the situation and see how India can support them.

“I mean this is a country which had vaccine shortage, it had wheat shortage, it had medicine shortage. You know, some projects will get difficulty with time. The focus right now in Afghanistan is less, I would say, political. It is more about helping the Afghan people with whom we have a historical connection. So, that is the current state of the situation,” Jaishankar said.

Jaishankar slams Rahul Gandhi for criticising India abroad

Speaking in reference to recent comments made by Congressman Rahul Gandhi at a gathering in the US, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that Gandhi frequently criticises India overseas and that it is not in the interest of the nation to bring its own problems to the world’s attention. I don’t think it’s in the national interest to export national politics, he remarked.

At an event in the US, Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to drive the Indian car by only looking in the rear-view mirror which will lead to “one accident after another.”
