Following the recent fare hike by Bengaluru Metro, speculation regarding a potential increase in Delhi Metro fares has intensified. Social media posts claiming a fare revision for Delhi Metro went viral, prompting the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to issue a clarification on Wednesday.

Addressing these rumors, DMRC posted a statement on social media platform X, stating, "This is in reference to social media posts claiming a hike in Delhi Metro fares. Metro fares are determined solely by an independent Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) appointed by the government. At present, there is no proposal to constitute a new Fare Fixation Committee."

Bengaluru Metro implements fare revision

The recent revision in Bengaluru Metro’s fare structure has fueled discussions about potential changes in metro pricing across other cities. According to the new Bengaluru Metro fare chart, the minimum fare remains unchanged at ₹10, but the maximum fare has been increased from ₹60 to ₹90. Additionally, the minimum balance required on a smart card has been raised from ₹50 to ₹90.

The revised fare structure is as follows:

  • Up to 2 km – ₹10
  • 2-4 km – ₹20
  • 4-6 km – ₹30
  • 6-8 km – ₹40
  • 8-10 km – ₹50
  • 10-12 km – ₹60
  • 15-20 km – ₹70
  • 20-25 km – ₹80
  • Above 25 km – ₹90

Delhi Metro expansion and phase 4 progress

Meanwhile, DMRC continues to expand its network as part of its ambitious Phase 4 project. Delhi Metro, now the longest metro system in India, spans 395 km (including Noida Metro Aqua Line and Rapid Metro Gurugram), covering 289 stations across 12 corridors.

As part of Phase 4, services have commenced on the Janakpuri West–Krishna Park Extension, a 2.8 km stretch extending the Magenta Line. This marks the first operational segment of the broader expansion plan aimed at further enhancing Delhi’s metro connectivity.

With no official confirmation of a fare hike, commuters can continue using Delhi Metro services at existing rates while the expansion efforts proceed.
