A mechanism will be devised to ensure that voter will go to polling booth and will cast their vote separately at one go for the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.

According to the sources, the Law Commission is working on a formula to synchronise all assembly polls by making change in the tenure all the states can go under polls along with the Lok Sabha 2029 onwards.

As per sources, the government has already set up a high-level committee to explore how Lok Sabha, state assembly, and local bodies polls can be conducted at one go. The Law Commission may also be asked to include the third tier of elections along with its current mandate for national and state polls.

In addition to this, the law panel is also looking for a mechanism, which will ensure the smooth conduction of the common electoral roll for Lok Sabha, assemblies, and local bodies to reduce cost and use of manpower for an almost similar exercise carried out now by the Election Commission and the state election commissions.

However, the committee has not yet disclosed anything formal statement on this.

It is also said that committee will plan that voter does not have to visit the voting booth twice to cast their vote for the Lok Sabha and assembly polls.

As it is anticipated to be a giant step in democratic process, the commission will suggest the ways to make this work smoothly. Notably, the high-level committee under former President Ram Nath Kovind has been tasked with recommending how the process of Lok Sabha, assembly, and local body polls (panchayat, municipalities, zila parishad) can be held together.

It is also said that the ambit of the Law Commission can also get larger to include holding local body polls along with national and state polls.
