IPS officer forcibly enters married woman's home, gets suspended by Odisha government on severe misconduct

The state police headquarters in Cuttack, Odisha, will serve as Uttamrao's headquarters while it is under suspension. He cannot depart without the DGP's approval. During his suspension, he will be paid a subsistence payment under the guidelines.

New Delhi: Following reports that he had forcibly entered the home of a married lady inspector and misbehaved, the Odisha government suspended senior IPS officer Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao on Tuesday for allegedly misusing his power and engaging in severe misconduct, according to an official statement.

Uttamrao, a member of the 2007 batch, was employed in Odisha as the DIG of Home Guards & Fire Services. On July 27, he was charged with misbehaving with a female police inspector and her spouse. DCP Prateek Singh of Bhubaneswar stated that if a complaint was made on the occurrence, the police will respond. The state home department issued an order claiming that Pandit is secret information about the incident had been submitted by the DGP of Odisha.

Odisha and the case 

The state home department issued an order stating that the DGP of Odisha had filed a secret report on the incident against Pandit.A disciplinary action against Shri Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao, IPS is being considered due to his serious misconduct as an Indian Police Service member. Thus, it stated, "The Government of Odisha hereby places the said Shri Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao, IPS under suspension with immediate effect in the exercise of the powers granted by sub-rule (1) of Rule 3 of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969."

More on the complaint

"A complaint has been received, stating that Pandit has defiled the dignity of his position by misusing his power last Saturday (July 27) night," the CM office stated in a statement. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi moved quickly after arriving back in Delhi on Monday night after a four-day visit, as per a statement released by the CMO. Majhi gave the relevant agency instructions to suspend the "senior police officer who is acting inappropriately right away and take proper measures against him." Uttamrao has been disciplined for grave misconduct while serving as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.

But only if he presents a certificate attesting to his lack of involvement in any other employment or business will he be eligible for this stipend.
