The Kinnar Akhada is currently embroiled in significant internal conflict following the controversial appointment of former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni as Mahamandaleshwar. Reports indicate that Rishi Ajay, the founder of the group, is actively working to mitigate the rising tensions and divisions that have emerged in recent days. The discord stems from differing views on Kulkarni's appointment, which has led Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi to consider stepping down from her leadership position.

Controversy Surrounds Kulkarni's Appointment

Since being appointed earlier this week, Kulkarni's past and her relatively new involvement with the transgender community have raised questions among some members of the Akhada. Supporters argue that her celebrity status could enhance visibility and attract resources for the community. However, critics have voiced concerns regarding her suitability for the role.

Transgender activist Himangi Sakhi Maa has also publicly criticized Kulkarni's appointment. She remarked, "Mamta Kulkarni has been made Mahamandleshwar by the Kinnar Akhada for publicity. Society knows her past very well. She was even jailed in the past in connection with drug cases. Suddenly, she arrives in India, participates in the Maha Kumbh, and is given the position of Mahamandleshwar. This needs investigation."

Impending Leadership Changes

With the controversy escalating, Tripathi is anticipated to formally resign from her role, prompting a potential reshuffle within the leadership and raising questions about the criteria used for selecting a Mahamandaleshwar. Although Tripathi has not officially stepped down yet, reports suggest that an announcement regarding her resignation is expected soon.
