New Delhi: A 23-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur committed suicide hours after he was allegedly sexually assaulted by four men. Giving more details in the case, police officials said that the victim knew one of the accused through social media. According to Superintendent of Police (North) Jitendra Kumar Srivastava, the victim had befriended Karan (alias Ashutosh Mishra) online a month ago. After this Karan called him to his house in Chiluatal.
On Thursday, Karan allegedly took the victim to a hotel in Rail Vihar, where three of his associates also joined them. Police said that the four men held the victim hostage, sexually assaulted him and beat him with a belt. They also allegedly recorded the attack and threatened to post it online if the victim did not give them money.
SP Srivastava further said that the accused also used the victim's phone to transfer money through UPI and buy beer. The victim reportedly attempted to lodge a complaint at the Shahpur police station, but due to jurisdiction issues, an FIR was not registered immediately. An FIR was finally registered in the case on Friday under sections of the Indian Penal Code related to unnatural offences, extortion, criminal intimidation and other relevant charges.
Notably, on the night of the incident, the victim spoke to his nephew and then allegedly committed suicide. His body was found by his family on Saturday morning and they then informed the police about the matter.
The police have arrested three accused Karan alias Ashutosh Mishra (26), Devesh Rajnand (24) and Angad Kumar (21). The search is on to nab the fourth suspect Mohan Prajapati (20).
