New Delhi: Indian Navy warship INS Tarkash has achieved a major success under maritime security operations. During the operation in the Western Indian Ocean, this frontline warship has seized more than 2500 kg of narcotics. This operation reflects the Navy's commitment to crack down on maritime crimes and strengthen regional security. INS Tarkash is deployed for maritime security operations in the Western Indian Ocean since January 2025. The ship is part of Combined Task Force (CTF) 150 operating under the Bahrain-based Combined Maritime Force (CMF) and is actively participating in the multinational joint operation called "Anzac Tiger".

High-profile operation of INS Tarkash

During patrolling on 31 March 2025, inputs were received from Indian Navy's P8I reconnaissance aircraft about the movement of suspicious ships. These ships were found to be involved in illegal activities like drug smuggling. Based on this information, INS Tarkash changed its route and proceeded to intercept the suspicious ships.

After systematically checking all the suspicious vessels at sea, INS Tarkash intercepted a suspicious dhow (small ship) and boarded it and conducted a detailed search. During this, the ship also deployed its helicopter to keep an eye on other suspicious vessels as well.

2500 kg of narcotics recovered

The special boarding team and Marine Commandos of INS Tarkash boarded the suspicious dhow and searched it. During this, sealed packets were found hidden in various parts of the ship, which contained a total of more than 2500 kg of narcotics. The drugs seized included 2386 kg of hashish and 121 kg of heroin. After this, the ship took control of the suspicious ship and thoroughly interrogated the crew about their modus operandi and other possible smuggling cases.

Marine area protected by strict surveillance

This seizure reflects the vigilance, professionalism of the Indian Navy and its contribution to maritime security. This operation not only helped curb drug trafficking but also strengthened the security and stability of international waterways in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). This action of INS Tarkash and the Indian Navy reflects their commitment to maritime security, which underlines India's strong position at the global level.
