India’s indigenous spacecraft mission, Aditya-L1 which was launched on September 2, 2023, on Wednesday has sent pictures of the Earth and the Moon clicked as it heads to its destination Lagrangian point (L1) which is located 1.5 million km from the Earth.

The official Twitter handle of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) shared the images taken by the camera of Aditya-L1. The tweet reads, “👀Onlooker! Aditya-L1, destined for the Sun-Earth L1 point, takes a selfie and images of the Earth and the Moon.”

Before this, ISRO shared that Aditya-L1 has successfully performed the second Earth-bound maneuvre. The next maneuvre (EBN#3) is scheduled for September 10, 2023, around 02:30 Hrs. IST.

The organisation tweeted, “Aditya-L1 Mission: The second Earth-bound maneuvre (EBN#2) is performed successfully from ISTRAC, Bengaluru. ISTRAC/ISRO’s ground stations at Mauritius, Bengaluru and Port Blair tracked the satellite during this operation. The new orbit attained is 282 km x 40225 km. The next maneuvre (EBN#3) is scheduled for September 10, 2023, around 02:30 Hrs. IST”

According to official release of ISRO, Aditya-L1 is a satellite dedicated to the comprehensive study of the Sun. It has 7 distinct payloads developed, all developed indigenously. Five by ISRO and two by Indian academic institutes in collaboration with ISRO.
