Days after successfully conducting the third opposition bloc meeting in Maharashtra’s Mumbai, now they are all set to hold the INDIA’s Coordination Committee today (September 13) in the national capital. The panel will discuss several crucial aspects ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, including seat-sharing and election campaigns.

INDIA bloc’s Coordination Committee meeting today

The Coordination Committee is the apex decision-making body of the opposition bloc and comprises senior INDIA coalition leaders such as National Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, KC Venugopal of Congress, and Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray faction and more.

This meeting of the 14-member all-important panel of the opposition is scheduled to take place at the NCP chief’s residence in Delhi.

Notably, the INDIA bloc’s meeting comes days after the opposition got energised by the victories in the seven by-polls held earlier this month. According to the results, on seven assembly seats in six states, the INDIA bloc constituents won on four seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on three.

Sources said leaders of several opposition parties have sought an early seat-sharing formula to be worked out to ensure that a joint candidate is put up from the opposition side against the BJP candidates in Lok Sabha seats.

However, several leaders have already said that the parties have to shed their egos and vested interests in arriving at such a formula.

What’s on agenda?

During this meeting, the leaders will focus on finalising campaigns and rallies to be held in the upcoming days. Moreover, the key focus will be on the seat-sharing in several states.

“The source said that the discussion for seat sharing in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and other states will be on the agenda of the leaders. A detailed discussion will take place on the number of seats the parties want to contest in these states. Also, a discussion on seat sharing in Maharashtra, West Bengal will also come up for discussion,” said media reports.

Leaders will also look at the decisions taken in meetings of the different sub-groups like the campaign committee, working group on media, research, and social media sub-groups.

“A final shape will be given to the agenda including what would be the programmes and where the campaign will be held. It will all be deliberated upon,” a source said.

28 opposition parties have formed the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to take on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) unitedly in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
