Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been hospitalized in Paris due to severe dehydration following her disqualification from the final of the 50kg freestyle wrestling event at the Olympics. Phogat was disqualified earlier today, August 7, after being found 100 grams overweight in her category.

Phogat's uncle, Mahavir Phogat, confirmed that she made significant efforts to shed the excess weight. Despite working through the night, engaging in intense exercise routines, including cycling and skipping, Phogat's attempts to meet the weight limit were unsuccessful. Her rigorous efforts proved futile, leading to her disqualification.

Impact on the competition

As a result of the disqualification, Vinesh Phogat has been ranked last in the event and will not receive a medal. Her opponent in the final, Sarah Hildebrandt of the USA, has been awarded the gold medal. Notably, there will be no silver medal awarded in this category.
