According to the reports from Hindustan Times, the new policy aims to strengthen meritocracy, assist in overcoming operational obstacles, and answer cadre goals of all arms and services. It will also improve the chances to increase opportunities for promotion.
Officials highlighted that the army's existing human resources strategy has withstood the test of time and allowed the organisation to meet all obstacles, both internal and external. However, they also noted all policies must be dynamic in order for the army to continue leading the charge in bolstering national power.
The report of Hindustan Times quoted an official, "The new policy helps in aligning the leadership requirements to the present and emerging operational challenges, both in internal and external dimensions. It also addresses the aspirations of senior leadership by providing further promotional opportunities to officers in major general rank approved in 'staff stream' only to be eligible for promotion to the next rank in 'staff only'."
Furthermore, it added, "It addresses the issue of cadre aspirations of officers of all arms and services by providing almost equitable satisfaction in promotion boards and also strengthening meritocracy."
The official stated that the new policy unifies the applicability of policies for all selection boards.
