Indian Army rescues 75 women after 2-hour gunfight with suspected insurgents in Manipur

In a nearly two-hour gunfight, the Army and Assam Rifles rescued 75 Meitei women from an attack by Kuki militants on Friday night. The incident happened on May 16. The group of armed people started firing towards Uyok at 10:45 pm. Uyok is right in the foothills.

Assam Rifles posted a photo on social media in which two soldiers can be seen firing mortars at suspected insurgents. NDTV sources said the army used mortars to bombard the attackers' positions in the darkness. Let us tell you that the attack by armed people on Uyok village was so intense that double the force had to be used in retaliation. The women who escaped from the clutches of death in this firing have thanked Assam Rifles and Army.

Armed militants surrendered

34 armed militants of United National Liberation Front-P (UNLF-P), who were trying to enter Manipur from Myanmar, surrendered before Assam Rifles with their automatic weapons. Army officials have given information about this. Officials said they were trying to enter Manipur after fierce firing by rival PDF in Myanmar. He said that Assam Rifles personnel alert in the area saw him and challenged him.

Officials said a group of 34 armed militants decided to surrender to the force with their automatic weapons. He said that the militants have been handed over to the state police. The surrendered group is believed to be members of UNLF (P), a militant group operating from the valley, officials said. The organization had signed a ceasefire agreement with the Central Government and the Manipur Government on November 29, 2023.
