On July 8, terrorists opened fire on a truck carrying five army men, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), as it traveled on the treacherous Machedi-Kindli-Malhar mountain road near Badnota hamlet in Jammu and Kashmir. It took longer for the troops to send reinforcements because, according to sources, terrorists were assaulting locations with weak road connectivity and great distances from security formations. Sources stated that security services had stepped up their investigation into the attack and that around 20 individuals had been taken into custody to be questioned by police.
