The officer, serving with the 48 Rashtriya Rifles, was leading a search operation in the Assar area when he sustained fatal injuries. The operation, which began on Tuesday, remains ongoing as security forces continue to search for the terrorists involved. "A Captain of the Indian Army from the 48 Rashtriya Rifles was killed in action during the ongoing Op Assar in Doda district," stated Defence officials.

Earlier in the day, the White Knight Corps reported, "Search for the terrorists continues amidst a heavy firefight. One officer has been injured while leading the search party. War-like stores have been recovered as operations progress."

According to the officials, the search in the area is still on.

In response to the rising number of terror-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh convened a high-level meeting on Wednesday. Key officials, including Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and other top security officials, attended the meeting at South Block. This discussion comes just ahead of Independence Day on August 15, underscoring the urgency of addressing the security situation in the region.

Security forces throughout Jammu and Kashmir have been placed on high alert to ensure public safety ahead of the national holiday.

This latest incident follows the tragic loss of two soldiers and a civilian during a gunfight with terrorists in Anantnag on August 10. Havildar Dipak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma were martyred in that operation, with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi paying tribute to their sacrifice.

The region has seen a marked increase in terror attacks, with several deadly incidents reported in recent months, including an assault on an army convoy in Kathua and clashes in Doda and Udhampur.
