Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was badgered for months by the Opposition to speak on Manipur row, started his iconic 10th consecutive address at Red Fort with a reference to the situation prevailing in the strife-torn state after hoisting the national flag.
Addressing the nation, PM Modi said, “In the past few weeks, during the period of violence in the North East, especially in Manipur, many people lost their lives, and the honour of mothers and daughters suffered a lot, but in the last few days, there are reports of peace. The country is with Manipur.”
He added that the central government and the state government both working together to maintain peace and harmony in the violence-hit northeastern state.

Before speaking on the Manipur situation, the prime minister first extended his greetings to the 140 crore Indians, who he called his ‘parivajan (family members).’
Further, he also offered gratitude to the Satyagraha movement led by Mahatma Gandhi and remembered the sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and other freedom fighters that made Independence possible.
“I pay homage to all those who contributed to the independence of the county, made sacrifices,” he added.
