Uttarakhand: At the grand finale of the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, Home Minister Amit Shah declared that India was fully prepared to host the 2036 Olympics. He expressed confidence that Indian athletes would bring home medals and elevate the nation's status on the world stage. While India's bid is still in its early stages, the final decision from the International Olympic Committee is expected next year. Meanwhile, Meghalaya was handed the baton to host the next National Games in 2027.

India is officially ready Dehradun, February 15I,India has officially set its sights on hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, with Home Minister Amit Shah declaring the nation’s readiness at the closing ceremony of the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand. Shah’s statement comes as India continues its aggressive push in global sporting events, with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur asserting that the country will soon break into the top 10 of the Olympic medal tally.

 

 

India’s bid for the Olympics gains momentum

Speaking at the grand event, Shah emphasized India’s capabilities in organizing an event of Olympic magnitude. "I can say today that India has a very bright future in sports. We have staked a claim to host the Olympics in 2036, and we are ready for it. When the Olympics are held here, our athletes will win medals and make the country’s flag fly high," he said.

While India's Olympic bid is still in its early stages, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is expected to take a final decision next year. If successful, India would become the fourth Asian country to host the prestigious event, following Japan, South Korea, and China.

A Nation rising in sports excellence

India has witnessed a remarkable transformation in its sporting culture, with a surge in performances across global platforms. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening grassroots training and infrastructure, ensuring that Indian athletes can compete at the highest level.

"We are making steady progress, and I strongly believe that India will soon break into the top 10 of the Olympic medal tally," he said.

 Meghalaya takes the baton National games

The event concluded with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha officially declaring the 38th National Games closed. The ceremonial flag was then handed over to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, as the northeastern state gears up to host the 39th National Games in 2027.

With India’s growing dominance in international sports and an ambitious Olympic dream, the countdown to 2036 has begun.
