As INDIA bloc members are gearing up for its next conclave in Delhi today, the Congress party held a meeting of senior leaders of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) under the chairmanship of the party supremo Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday.
Notably, the Congress leaders discussed the strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the seat-sharing formula with the Samajwadi Party (SP), strengthening party organisation, and the UP Jodo Yatra to be launched by the party from Saharanpur district in West UP from December 20.
After the meeting, UPCC president Ajay Rai indicated that the Gandhi family will contest traditional Lok Sabha seats - Amethi, Rae Bareli and Prayagraj.
The Gandhi family retains close ties with Amethi and Rae Bareli constituents after "over four decades" representing the seats. A Congress party meeting heard these bonds will strengthen ahead of the 2024 general election.
No firm decisions yet on seat-sharing with alliance partners like the Samajwadi Party. But the central leadership will have the final say.
Other plans include "Padyatras across the state” to galvanise Congress party workers and connect with voters. The "UP Jodo Yatra” kicks off on December 20 at the Sakumbhari Devi temple in Saharanpur district. It finishes at the Shaheed Smarak Memorial in Lucknow.
Attendees at the meeting included Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and senior Congress figures like Rajeev Shukla and Salman Khurshid.
The party has also arranged a working committee meeting on December 21. The agenda features the 2024 Lok Sabha election strategy, including seats and campaigns.
