Earlier Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had called a meeting of the INDIA bloc leaders for Wednesday, after losing the elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

The opposition INDIA bloc meeting which was scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed after many top leaders, including Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, decided to skip.

According to sources, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin will be giving it a miss as the Chennai airport was shut due to Cyclone Michaung. Nitish Kumar was unwell and Mamata Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav had informed that they both has some prior commitments.

Aam Aadmi Party has not responded yet and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief Uddhav Thackeray had earlier agreed to come for the meeting but later cancelled his flight tickets.

However, a coordination meeting will be held at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on December 6 at 6 pm. The same was confirmed via tweet by Gurdeep Singh Sappal, the Coordinator of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

The next INDIA bloc expected to be crucial as Congress has to rework its plan for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections after losing 3-1 to the BJP on Sunday, nearly destroying the party in the Hindi heartland.

Why was INDIA bloc formed?

INDIA or 'Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance' is a group of 28 opposition parties, including the Congress, which came together to take on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is led by PM Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and to prevent it from winning a third straight term at the Centre in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The first meeting of the joint opposition was convened in Patna on June 23 and the second meeting was held in Bengaluru on July 17-18. The third meeting happened in Mumbai during August 31-September 1.
