New Delhi: BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari strongly reacted to former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's remarks regarding the execution of Afzal Guru. Abdullah's statement, in which he expressed that he would not have allowed the execution of the terrorist if it had been under his authority, has sparked controversy. Bhandari accused Abdullah and the INDIA alliance of backing terrorists, contrasting their approach with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Jammu and Kashmir.

PM Modi’s vision for development in Jammu and Kashmir

Bhandari emphasized PM Modi's consistent focus on development and the eradication of terrorism from the region. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Jammu and Kashmir has been one of development, ensuring that terrorism is uprooted from the valley," Bhandari said. He further accused the Congress party, Rahul Gandhi, and Omar Abdullah of providing "soft support" to terrorists.

Bhandari highlighted the significant reduction in violence in Jammu and Kashmir over the past decade, noting, "In the last 10 years, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed no stone-pelting incidents, and the terror in the valley has decreased." He expressed confidence that the people of Jammu and Kashmir would vote for a BJP-led government to continue this progress.

Altaf Thakur criticizes Abdullah's Pakistan policy

BJP leader Altaf Thakur also criticized Abdullah, claiming, “Omar Abdullah is openly supporting Pakistan’s policy, hoping to win the election after his loss in the Parliament election.” Omar Abdullah, in defense of his earlier comments, explained that the Jammu and Kashmir government had no role in Afzal Guru’s execution. He asserted, "If state approval had been required, it wouldn’t have been granted." The first assembly elections post-Article 370 abrogation are scheduled in three phases, with 90 constituencies up for contest.
