New Delhi: In preparation for Independence Day on August 15, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced a significant adjustment to its service schedule. The metro will start operations at 4:00 AM to accommodate the large number of passengers traveling to the Red Fort for the day's ceremonies. This early start is designed to ensure that attendees can reach the historic site on time for the Independence Day celebrations.

Special travel arrangements for invitation holders

For those holding government-issued invitation cards for the Independence Day ceremony, DMRC has implemented special travel arrangements. Passengers with valid invitation cards and a government-issued photo ID will be allowed to travel on the metro. However, this facility is restricted to three stations: Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, and Chandni Chowk, which are nearest to the Red Fort.

“People who will be in possession of a bonafide invitation card issued by the Ministry of Defence will be permitted entry and travel on production of valid government-issued photo identity cards. This arrangement will be valid for exit only at Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, and Chandni Chowk, which are closest to the venue. The same invitation cards will also be valid for performing the return journey from these three stations only,” said DMRC.

Special arrangements for Independence Day travel

DMRC will cover the costs of this special travel arrangement, with the Ministry of Defence reimbursing the expenses. To ensure passengers are informed, regular announcements will be made inside the trains regarding these arrangements. This proactive communication aims to facilitate a smooth travel experience for those attending the Independence Day events.

Red Fort area stations on high alert

For Independence Day, heightened security measures and crowd management strategies will be in place around key stations, particularly those near the Red Fort. Commuters are advised to arrive early and expect increased security checks. Additionally, some stations may experience temporary changes in entry and exit protocols to manage the large influx of passengers.
