New Delhi: In a shocking incident in Bihar's Aurangabad, a young bride was tragically killed by her in-laws over a dowry dispute. The parents of 20-year-old victim, allege that their daughter was harassed after her marriage. Despite giving a Honda Sign bike as dowry, her in-laws demanded an Apache bike. To fulfill the unethical demand, she was subjected to abuse which ultimately caused her death.

Disturbing dowry demand

The victim was married to Amarjeet Kumar, son of Ashok Paswan, on 12th July in a traditional Hindu ceremony. Within ten days of her marriage, her in-laws began harassing her for not bringing an Apache bike. This harassment quickly turned into physical abuse. On the evening of 20th July, the situation escalated to a brutal beating, followed by her being strangled to death. To cover up the murder, her in-laws hanged her body, attempting to stage it as a suicide.

Victim's brother, Jaivind Kumar, recounted the painful ordeal. He stated that his family is a resident of Karai in the Koch police station area of Gaya district. They had provided what they could afford for the wedding. However, sister’s in-laws were dissatisfied and demanded an Apache bike instead of the Honda Sign they received. When Sangeeta arrived at her in-laws' home, the demands intensified, and she faced regular beatings over the issue.

Filed attempts to resolve the issue

On 16th July, the victim and her husband visited her parental home. Her in-laws' demands were discussed, and her husband was assured that the request would be fulfilled once possible. She returned to her in-laws' home on 18th July, but the abuse continued.

Attempt to cover up crime

On 20th July, victim's husband called her family and claimed she had committed suicide. Upon arriving in Koshdihra, her family found her body hanging, and her in-laws had fled. The police conducted a postmortem and handed over the body to the family for the last rites. The SHO stated that an FIR will be registered based on the family’s complaint, and the exact cause of death would be confirmed after the postmortem report.
