After the suspension of the AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Monday from the monsoon session, the opposition protested outside the Parliament condemning the action taken by the speaker. While making the statement on the suspension of Sanjay Singh, the senior AAP leader Raghav Chadha said, “In the parliamentary history of India, it is for the first time the suspension of any member is done for asking the question in the session, the suspension is used by the chair in the rarest of a rare occasion. Often this weapon is used in such cases, either a member has attacked the chair or any other member, an act of violence has taken place, some paper regulation has torn the book and thrown it on the chair or broken the mike, or done an objectionable thing.”

Adding to this, he also said, “It is for the first time that Manipur, an integral part of the country is burning on the issue, when a member tries to approach the Chair to request a debate on that subject, he gets suspended.” “This shows that maybe there is no tolerance left in BJP, their only goal is to suspend any MP who is raising voice against BJP or exposing BJP’s failure,” he added.

Chadha also remembered the Manipuri man whose wife got molested, “Poor Subedar was saying that I have protected the country but I could not protect my family and wife, what can happen to the country?”

Taking a jibe at PM Modi, Chadha said that we had had enough of ‘Mann ki Baat,’ and now we should talk about women’s security and the situation in Manipur.

He also said that the opposition is continuously keeping its point by filing notices that a debate should be conducted under Rule 267.  But not allowed to speak during the session. Adding to this, he also added, “The government should start the debate and allow the opposition to present its side and if all the members speak, we will come out with a solution on this.”

Want to ask why it is not happening?

Asserting the Manipur issue, Chadha said, “Why am I repeatedly saying that the issue of Manipur is not just a matter of Manipur, it is a matter of national security. The violence is now spreading in the neighbouring states, like Mizoram also. This topic is not only of Manipur, in a way it is becoming the issue of the entire North East.”

Reminding the statement of Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj, the leader of the opposition at that time, said, “Registering protests in this way and not allowing the House to function strengthens the Parliament and democracy.”

He further demanded that the chief minister of Manipur should be dismissed with immediate effect and President’s rule should be imposed in Manipur.
