In a recent development from Gujarat's Ahmedabad, over 600 schools have made it mandatory to include lessons from the Bhagavad Gita during their morning assemblies. It is worth noting that this has come months after a resolution to make Bhagwad Gita a part of the curriculum was introduced in the Gujarat Assembly.

With this, Ahmedabad is the first one to step into imparting lessons from the Hindu scripture. According to the sources, video lessons, based on Shlokas from Gita will be mandatory part of the morning assembly from this week. Over 3,000 teachers are been given training on the same.

At an event in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, Gujarat Education Minister Praful Pansheriya introduced a project named "Vidyarthi Jeevan Pathdarshak Banshe Shreemad Bhagwad Gita," which means "Srimad Bhagavad Gita will become a guide to student life." The project's inauguration follows Pansheriya's presentation of a resolution in the Assembly during the Budget Session earlier this year, on February 7, proposing to include the Bhagavad Gita in the curriculum of government schools starting in June, for grades VI through XII. There was no resistance to the resolution, which passed. The new academic session at the schools began on June 13.

To implement the decision made by the Gujarat Education Department, the Ahmedabad District Education Office (Rural) has produced video classes. These will be taught in the city's 650 secondary and higher secondary schools. It is important to note that the 51 videos that are been recorded are focused on shlokas that are related to modern challenges. It is also said that Ahmedabad DEO will conduct quizzes among students to evaluate their understanding of the subject.
