The rain continues to lash several parts of the country. In the latest announcement, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned India for more rains. Despite El Nino conditions that were set early this month, IMD has said that rainfall will increase over the west coast, while heavy rainfall will continue over parts of northwest India, including Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, for another few days.

IMD’s predictions

According to the predictions by IMD, Konkan, and Gujarat witnessed heavy rain, while Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh experienced very heavy downpours. The department has also issued an ‘Orange’ alert for these regions for the next five days.

The northern part of India witnessing heavy rains and flooding which has caused severe damage and loss of life in several parts. According to a report by World meteorological Department, roads and bridges collapsed and houses were swept away as rivers overflowed during heavy monsoonal rainfall and flooding which killed dozens of people. The mountainous state of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand is badly hit, as were the regions of Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. New Delhi reportedly marked its wettest July day in 40 years, with 153 millimetres (6 inches) of rain falling in one day.
