IMD predicts favourable conditions for onset monsoon in next 48 hours

India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday has predicted that weather conditions are becoming favourable for the onset of monsoon over Kerala in next 48 hours. Earlier, the department predicted pre arrival of monsoon on June 4.

As per the predictions, monsoon generally sets in over Kerala on June 1 with standard deviation for about seven days.

Apart from this, the warning has also been issued for the fishermen, as Cyclonic storm Biparjoy is expected to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm in next 24 hours. Coastal areas of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, and Kerala are set to experience high speed wind and harsh weather. Notably, Kerala has seen a delay in the monsoon due to cyclone Biparjoy.

IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall in Mumbai till June 12, due to Cyclone Biparjoy.

Taking it to Twitter, IMD mentioned, “Severe Cyclonic storm Biparjoy over eastcentral and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea at 0830 IST of 07th June, near lat 12.7N and lon 66.2E, about 880km WSW of Goa. Likely to move nearly northwards and intensify into VSCS during next 12 hrs.”

IMD issues rainfall alert for the following states:

• Over Kerala, Lakshadweep, South Interior Karnataka, isolated to scattered activity over Coastal & North Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh over the next five days, light to moderate widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds highly likely.
• IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands on 06th, 07^th and 10th; Kerala during 06th-10th and South Interior Karnataka on 09th & 10th June.
• Over the next five days, there will most likely be light to moderate rainfall that is scattered to fairly widespread, along with thunderstorms and lightning. Over Manipur on June 6, Manipur and Mizoram on June 7, and Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya on June 10—isolated heavy rainfall is extremely likely.
• On June 6th and 7th, isolated light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning are highly likely over Northwest India. Thunderstorms (travelling at a speed of 50–60 km/h) are expected to pass over West and East Rajasthan on June 6 and 7, respectively.
• Most locations over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands experienced rain or thundershowers today, as did numerous locations over Uttarakhand, Kerala, and Mahe, Lakshadweep, as well as a few locations over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad.
